Prithviraj's 2024 film Aadujeevitham aka The Goat Life, held the highest opening record for a Malayalam film. It collected Rs 8.95 crore net in India on Day 1. Prior to that, Lucifer (2019) collected Rs 6.10 crore on its release day.

This year, only two Malayalam films did well at the box office. Asif Ali-starrer Rekhachitram made a lifetime collection of Rs 26 crore nett and Kunchacko Boban's Officer on Duty earned Rs 31 crore nett. Empuraan will easily surpass the lifetime collections of these films in just two days.

Last year, Manjummel Boys, became the only Malayalam film that had crossed Rs 200 crore.

If Empuraan continues to perform well in the extended weekend, it is likely to overtake Manjummel Boys.

Mohanlal's film is going to face a tough competition with Salman Khan's Sikandar, which is releasing this Sunday, March 30.

Empuraan has received positive reviews from critics and audiences and the word of mouth might help the film to sustain at the box office, despite its competition with Sikandar.

Empuraan has been directed by Prithviraj. Apart from helming, he has also starred in the film. It also stars Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, and Suraj Venjaramoodu, among others in key roles. International actors Eriq Ebouaney and Jerome Flynn, are also part of the movie.

It is jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and A. Subaskaran under Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions, respectively.
