The Canadian Parliament went into lockdown after a man gained access to the East Block of the building and barricaded himself inside. As per the latest updates, the man has been arrested by authorities, and the lockdown in the parliament building has been lifted.

The Parliamentary Protective Services issued warnings on Saturday to avoid the East Block section. As per the statement issued by the police, all people on site were ordered to seek shelter in the nearest room or structure and lock the doors.

Ottawa Police took to X to confirm the police operation and stated that the East Block had been evacuated.

"East block has been evacuated. There are no known injuries and police continue to deal with an individual in this ongoing incident that began just before 3 p.m. Please avoid the area and follow the direction of officers. Road closures remain in place on Wellington St. from Bank Street to Sussex Drive," read the statement issued by Ottawa Police.

After an hours-long lockdown, police authorities confirmed the arrest of the man and added that he had been taken into custody.

"The barricaded man call at East Block has ended without incident. One man is in custody. The criminal investigation is ongoing and an update will be provided in the morning. We thank the public for its cooperation," stated Ottawa Police on X.

There was no comment regarding the motive or the man. An investigation is underway.
