The Chepauk curse has finally been lifted. After five unsuccessful attempts at MA Chidambaram, the Sunrisers Hyderabad end the jinx with five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings on Friday -- a result that gave their faint playoff hopes in Indian Premier League 2025 a much-needed lifeline. Asked to bat first, MS Dhoni라이브 바카라 side endured a familiar nightmare -- a shaky start, a mid-innings collapse, and eventually folding for a below-par 154 in 19.3 overs. It all began with a dream delivery from Mohammad Shami that sent Shaik Rasheed back for a golden duck off the very first ball.

The 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre offered a glimpse of resistance with a gutsy 30 off 19, but CSK's innings never really recovered.

Dewald Brevis brought the crowd to life with 42 off just 25 balls, launching a counterattack that threatened to turn the tide. But his charge was halted by Kamindu Mendis flying across the ropes to pull off a stunner that silenced the stands.

From there, it was the Harshal Patel show. The crafty pacer bamboozled the CSK middle-order finishing with match-defining figures of 4/28.

Now, chasing 155 might have seemed straightforward, but CSK fought tooth and nail. Khaleel Ahmed struck early to remove Abhishek Sharma for a duck, while Anshul Kamboj dismissed Travis Head for 19, leaving SRH under early pressure.

However then, Ishan Kishan took charge. He anchored the innings with a crucial 44 off 34 balls, navigating the spin threat posed by Noor Ahmed and handling the pressure of a slow Chepauk track. But just as he looked set to take SRH home, he too departed off Noor's delivery.

Any hopes of a CSK comeback were dashed by the 49-run partnership between Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy at the end. The duo sealed the deal in 18.4 overs, finishing at 155/5.

The result pushes Chennai Super Kings to the brink, now needing a miracle to make the playoffs -- five wins from five and a favorable net run rate equation. Sunrisers, on the other hand, leapfrog Rajasthan Royals to eighth on the table with six points from nine games.

CSK will look to salvage pride -- and maybe, just in case, their season -- when they face Punjab Kings on April 30. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad will hope to carry the momentum into their clash against Gujarat Titans on May 2.
