Amid the mystery surrounding the Kazakhstan plane crash, Azerbaijan Airlines has stated that "External, physical and technical interference" caused the crash on Wednesday.

An Azerbaijan Airlines flight, carrying 67 passengers and five crew members, crashed on Christmas Day near Kazakhstan's Aktau airport.

The incident occurred after the plane was diverted due to dense fog and forced to make an emergency landing. A total of 38 people were killed in the crash and around 29 passengers survived.

Based on a CNN report, early investigation has revealed the possibility of external interference as the plane diverted its route away from the destination - Grony, Russia.

As investigations into the crash continue, the initial statement from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the crash may have been caused due to "worsening weather conditions."

Earlier reports claimed that a Russian anti-aircraft system was likely behind the plane crash.

On Wednesday, Azerbaijan Airlines flight J28243, an Embraer 190 aircraft, took off from Baku and was headed for Grozny in Russia's Chechnya. The aircraft was 'denied landing due to fog' in Grozny and diverted far off the Caspian Sea, where it crashed in the Aktau city of Kazakhstan.

Following this crash, Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended all flights towards Russia until further image.
