Iran and the United States on Saturday held a 'constructive' second round of indirect nuclear negotiations, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The minister also asserted that the negotiation is moving forward with further meetings planned in the coming week.
US Special Envoy to Middle East Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi tried finding a common ground during four hours of indirect talks at Oman라이브 바카라 embassy in the Italian capital, Rome, on Saturday. However, official response from the US side is awaited.
“We succeeded in reaching a better understanding on certain principles and goals,” the diplomat was quoted by the semiofficial Tasnim news agency as saying. “The negotiations were conducted in a constructive atmosphere and are progressing”, Al Jazeera quoted Araghchi as saying.
According to Iran라이브 바카라 Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties are scheduled hold more indirect, technical-level talks in the coming days, followed by another meeting with senior officials on coming Saturday, April 26.
US President Donald Trump has imposed new sanctions on Iran as part of his “maximum pressure” campaign targeting the country. He has repeatedly suggested military action against Iran remained a possibility, while emphasizing he still believed a new deal could be reached by writing a letter to Iran라이브 바카라 85-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to jump start these talks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei wrote Saturday on the social platform X that Iran “always demonstrated, with good faith and a sense of responsibility, its commitment to diplomacy as a civilized way to resolve issues."
Trump's Letter To Khamenei
According to The Associated Press, Trump dispatched the letter to Khamenei on March 5, then gave a television interview the next day in which he acknowledged sending it.
He said: “I’ve written them a letter saying, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate because if we have to go in militarily, it라이브 바카라 going to be a terrible thing.’”
A previous letter from Trump during his first term drew an angry retort from the supreme leader.
Russia, A Major Factor
Witkoff had been in Paris for talks about Ukraine as Russia's full-scale war continues.
Araghchi will be coming from Tehran, Iran, after a visit to Moscow, where he met with officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russia, a member of the world powers involved in Tehran's 2015 nuclear deal, could be a key participant in any future deal reached between Tehran and Washington.
According to AP, analysts suggest Moscow could potentially take custody of Iran's uranium enriched to 60 per cent purity — a short, technical step away from weapons-grade levels of 90 per cent.
Reaction To First Round Of Talks
Witkoff in a television appearance suggested that 3.67 per cent enrichment for Iran could be something the countries could agree on which is the exact terms set by the 2015 nuclear deal under U.S. President Barack Obama.
Witkoff later issued a statement underlining something: “A deal with Iran will only be completed if it is a Trump deal.”
Araghchi and Iranian officials have reportedly latched onto Witkoff라이브 바카라 comments in recent days as a sign that America was sending it mixed signals about the negotiations.
Iran and the US have had a complicated relationship over the years, switching between hostility and cautious diplomacy. A major turning point was the 2015 nuclear deal, where Iran agreed to limits on its nuclear program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.
However, former US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the deal in 2018, leading to increased tensions between the two countries that still exist today.
