Amid the shockwave of two consecutive incidents of spouse killing in two different districts in Uttar Pradesh, another similar incident surfaced where a man in Bengaluru allegedly murdered his wife, stuffed her body into a suitcase, and fled to Pune, as per media reports.
According to a report by India Today, the accused has been identified as Rakesh from Maharashtra, who killed his 32-year-old wife Gauri Anil Sambekar. Pune Police reportedly tracked him down using call detail records (CDR) and detained.
The case is still under investigation as police work to discover further details and ascertain the full motive behind the crime.
About The Incident
Citing police sources, India Today reported that Rakesh and Gauri used to have heated arguments frequently, and there were reports that she had physically assaulted him during fights.
On March 26, a heated argument reportedly got out of hand leading Rakesh to stab Gauri and kill her. He then packed her body into a suitcase and left it in the bathroom before escaping to Pune.
The horrific incident surfaced when Rakesh reportedly called his in-laws and confessed to the murder. The couple hailing from Maharashtra had been living in Doddakannahalli under Hulimavu police station limits for the past two months.
The victim reportedly pursued mass media and communication.However, she was unemployed and staying at home, while Rakesh worked as a project manager at Hitachi.
What Did The Police Say?
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Sarah Fathima told India Today that police initially received a call at around 5:30 pm reporting a suspected hanging case.
"When our Hulimavu police inspector reached the house, it was locked. After gaining entry, they found a suitcase in the bathroom. That's when we realised it was an offence. The FSL team opened the suitcase and discovered a woman's body with injury marks all over," she said.
"The body was not cut into pieces; it was intact. The exact nature of injuries will be confirmed after the postmortem report," DCP Fathima added.
Spouse Killing Spree In Recent Times
Meerut
In a horrific incident, a Meerut woman named Muskan Rastogi killed his husband, Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer who worked as a baker in London, with the help of her lover Sahil Shukla
The deceased reportedly returned to his Meerut home on February 24 for his wife's birthday, but just over a week later, his wife Muskan and her lover Sahil allegedly killed him.
Saurabh Rajput was allegedly drugged and then stabbed to death by his wife and her lover on March 4, his body dismembered and sealed inside a drum with cement. The duo then went on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh, all the while misleading Rajput's family by sending them messages from his phone.
The matter was reported to police on March 18, following which Muskan and Sahil were arrested.
Manipuri
Amid the row over Meerut killing, another horrifying case has surfaced from Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district where a woman allegedly conspired with her boyfriend and hired a contract killer to kill her husband just two weeks after their marriage.
According to India Today, Pragati Yadav, who had been in a relationship with Anurag Yadav from her village for the past four years, was forced by her family to marry 22-year-old Dilip Yadav on March 5, 2025.
Pragati and Anurag together plotted to kill Dilip as Pragati was unhappy with the marriage. She allegedly told Anurag that Dilip was wealthy and that after his death, they could lead a prosperous life together. Pragati gave Anurag Rs 1 lakh to arrange the murder, and Anurag hired a contract killer, identified as Ramji Nagar, for Rs 2 lakh to carry out the killing.
