A day after a stampede at Maha Kumbh mela killed at least 30 people, a fire was reported near the Kumbh Mela area.

As per the official statement from Kumbh Mela Police in Uttar Pradesh, the fire affected at least 10 to 15 tents. These tents were affiliated to the Juna Akhara at the festival.

However, officials added that these tents were private in nature and at least six kilometres away from the main mela.

On Wednesdya, at least 30 people were killed and over 60 injured after a stampede erupted at the Maha Kumbh mela. The crowd crush occurred after a large number of pilgrims turned up to take a dip in Sangam on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya’.

As per Mahakumbh DIG  Vaibhav Krishna, the incident occurred around 2 am on Wednesday. The toll was confirmed by the UP government nearly 12 hours after the incident. While the number stands at 30, the count is expected to be higher.

Thursday's fire is not the first fire reported at the Maha Kumbh. Earlier this month, an alleged cylinder blast was reported in one of the tents inside the mela. No injuries were reported.

As per reports, the fire has now been extinguished and the situation is under control.
