Protest Across Cities

Thousands of people took to the streets in Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad on Friday after weekly prayers to protest the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. In Kolkata, visuals showed large crowds waving the national flag and holding up posters that read "We reject the Waqf amendment" and "Reject Waqf Bill" as they gathered at public meeting sites. Many of these protests, according to news agency ANI, were organized by the Joint Forum for Waqf Protection.

In Ahmedabad, the protests appeared to have a more charged atmosphere. A video shared by ANI showed police officers attempting to forcibly remove elderly demonstrators who were sitting on the road.

Similar scenes unfolded in Chennai, where actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) had called for a statewide protest. TVK supporters gathered in Chennai as well as in major cities such as Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli, raising slogans like "Reject the Waqf Bill" and "Do not take away Muslims' rights."

Oppositions Slammed The Bill

Some of the top leaders said that the bill is aimed to target the Muslim community and their existence in the country. A few leaders even highlighted that the nature of the bill establishes a precedent that could be used to target other communities and religious minorities.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on X wrote that the bill is a weapon aimed at marginalising Muslims and usurping their personal laws and property rights.

TMC라이브 바카라 Mahua Moitra said that the Waqf Bill is a dividing factor for the Muslim community. “ The bill tells every Indian Muslim “You are not an equal citizen of India, know your place, your rights are not the same as ours.” Never felt so sad, so ashamed as I did in Lok Sabha yesterday,” Moitra said to ANI.
