US Vice President JD Vance arrives in New Delhi Monday morning on a four-day visit. In the evening he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and meet with senior ministers of the government. The Prime Minister will host a dinner for Vance, Second Lady Usha Vance, and their three children. His wife is of Indian origin. Her parents are Telugu-speaking academics from Andhra Pradesh who migrated to the US in the early 70s. Her father, Krish Chilukuri, is an engineer teaching at San Diego State University, while mother Lakshmi is a molecular biology professor and provost of the Sixth College at UC San Diego. Vance and his family will also travel to Jaipur and Agra. They are scheduled to attend a family wedding in the Pink City.
Vance라이브 바카라 visit to India is not expected to generate any controversy, unlike during his first trip as vice president to Europe in February. His speech at the Munich Security Conference created shock waves across the continent, as he launched a blistering attack on Europe라이브 바카라 liberal values and accused democratic leaders of gagging free speech for those championing far-right and conservative views not acceptable to the Left. He also said that European leaders were stone deaf to the concerns of ordinary citizens on immigration and the importance of preserving national identity. Vance, like most of Trump라이브 바카라 cabinet picks, has constantly promoted the conservative worldview of the president. This was apparent in his Munich speech and during the explosive interaction with Ukraine라이브 바카라 President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the public White House spat in February that tore apart US support for Ukraine and stunned European allies.
“The vice president has come to represent an intellectual wing of the conservative movement that gives expression to Trumpism and, in particular, how its America First mantra applies beyond its borders. In writings and interviews, Vance has expressed an ideology that seems to join the dots between American workers, global elites and the role of the US in the wider world,’’ Mike Wendling, BBC National Digital Editor, wrote last month.
There will be no such drama during the India visit, as New Delhi has been careful not to provoke the Trump Administration and has kept contentious discussions behind closed doors. India and the US are at the moment negotiating a trade deal, the first tranche of which is expected to be finalised by autumn.
The talks between the prime minister and Vance will focus on a wide range of subjects and particularly on the trade agreement. Vance will push India to open up its markets, especially the agriculture sector, and call for second-generation economic reforms. The Indo-Pacific cooperation and the role of the Quad – the US, India, Japan, and Australia – and its workings will be reviewed. The current trade war between the US and China, the US efforts at peacemaking between Russia and Ukraine, and regional issues including Afghanistan, Bangladesh and US-Iran talks will all be on the table.
"The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review the progress in bilateral relations and the implementation of the outcomes of the India-U.S. Joint Statement issued on 13 February 2025 during the visit of the Prime Minister to the US. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest," the MEA said in a statement announcing the visit.
“The vice president라이브 바카라 trip is primarily personal. However, it is natural that on his first trip to India, after becoming vice president, there will be an official element to this trip,” says Aparna Pande of the Washington-based Hudson Institute.
The 40-year-old Vance is a rising star of the MAGA movement and has ambitions of running for the presidency one day. As a rule, vice presidents are never much in the limelight. Kamala Harris was neither seen nor heard during her tenure as Joe Biden라이브 바카라 number two. She came into focus at the fag-end of Biden라이브 바카라 term when she became the Democratic nominee against Trump. JD Vance is, however, always in the public eye, sometimes for the wrong reasons, but he cannot be ignored. He articulates Trump라이브 바카라 vision much better than the President, who approves JD라이브 바카라 fiery attacks on the opposition. He is also smart enough to lace his speeches with dollops of praise for his boss. Vance makes public speeches on all aspects of foreign policy. Trump, who does not like to travel outside the US, is happy with Vance doing so and spreading his policies.
“For Delhi, the visit of the US Vice President will be a useful way to deepen close contacts within the President라이브 바카라 close circle of advisors and ensure India라이브 바카라 interests are kept in mind,” says Pande. New Delhi wants to woo Vance, as he is a powerful leader in the Trump ecosystem. He has a long political career ahead of him and is a good investment for the future.
