Babil Khan, actor and son of late Irrfan Khan and Sutapa Sikdar, made his comeback on Instagram on May 4, hours after deactivating his account. Babil, shared a meltdown video on Instagram and then deleted it, in which he was seen taking names of several celebrities- Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Raghav Juyal, Gaurav Adarsh and Arijit Singh.
As the video became viral on social media, he deactivated his account. Now, after his return to Instagram, Babil Khan clarified that the video was "extremely misinterpreted". He also said he was trying to show support to Ananya, Shanaya, Arjun, Raghav, Gaurav Adarsh and Arijit.
What did Babil Khan say in the viral video?
In the video which was doing the rounds on Sunday (April 4), Babil was seen crying and talking about how he feels isolated in the industry. The Qala actor took names of several colleagues from the industry. He was heard saying the names of Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant, Chaturvedi, Arjun Kapoor, Adarsh Gaurav, Raghav Juyal and Arijit Singh but in what context he took their names, left everyone intrigued.
"What I mean to say is that, I just want you guys to know that there are people like Shanaya Kapoor, Ananya Pandey and Arjun Kapoor and Siddhant Chaturvedi and Raghav Juyal and Adarsh Gourav and even... Arijit Singh? There are so, so many more names. Bollywood is so f****ed. Bollywood is so, so rude," he said.
Statement on Babil Khan's video
After the video started creating buzz on social media, Babil's team and family issued a joint statement, clarifying that the video was "widely misinterpreted".
The statement read, "Over the past few years, Babil Khan has earned immense love and appreciation for his work, as well as for his openness about his mental health journey. Like anyone else, Babil is allowed to have difficult days - and this was one of them. We want to reassure all his well-wishers that he is safe and will be feeling better soon."
It further added, "In the clip, Babil was sincerely acknowledging a few of his peers whom he believes are making meaningful contributions to the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. His mention of artists like Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav, Arjun Kapoor, and Arijit Singh came from a place of genuine admiration - for their authenticity, passion, and efforts to restore credibility and heart in the industry."
"We respectfully urge media publications and the public to consider the full context of his words rather than drawing conclusions from fragmented video clips," the statement concluded.
Celebs come out in support of Babil Khan
Ananya, on her Instagram Stories wrote, "Only love and good energy for you Babil, always in your corner" and added flexed muscles, red heart, folded hands and hug face emojis). She also re-shared Babil's note on his Instagram, a part of which read, "Thank you so much. The video was extremely misinterpreted, I was trying to show support to (tagged Ananya, Shanaya Kapoor, Gourav Adarsh, Arjun Kapoor, Raghav Juyal and Arijit Singh)."
Siddhant, supporting Babil, wrote a long note on Instagram, that read: “I usually never engage in s*** written about me and my colleagues, but this one's personal. So to all the Redditors, Gossip columns, and media portals of the internet. Stop. We love to hate and hate to love, is this what we've come to? Stop looking for drama here. All of us are working hard to bring drama to you on your screens.”
Kubbra Sait, Raghav Juyal, and Adarsh Gourav also extended their support for Babil.
