India라이브 바카라 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, marking the first time the minister has visited the region since the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed at least 26 civilians.
The purpose of the visit is to review the overall security and the combat readiness of the armed forces in the union territory, PTI reported.
The defence minister left his residence in the capital this morning to visit the region.
“Rakhsa Mantri Rajnath Singh has reached Srinagar this morning. He will interact with troops,” the office of the defence minister posted on X.
Singh was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir라이브 바카라 Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during his visit. He inspected Pakistani shells dropped in Jammu and Kashmir, and this debris displayed at the Badami Bagh Cantonment, ANI reported.
"I feel proud to be here among you amid such adverse conditions. The entire nation is proud of whatever you all did during Operation Sindoor, under the able leadership and guidance of PM Narendra Modi. Before being your Defence Minister, I am an Indian citizen. Besides being the Defence Minister, I am here to express gratitude to you as an Indian citizen," Singh said, as per ANI.
He added that he salutes the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the manner in which they expressed their anger against Pakistan and terrorists after Pahalgam attack. "I am here to feel that energy which destroyed the enemies. The manner in which you destroyed Pakistani chowkis and bunkers across the border, I think the enemy will never be able to forget it," he added, ANI reported.
India launched Operation Sindoor as a retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack - targeting nine “terrorist infrastructures” in Pakistan - on May 7. After the operation, tensions rapidly escalated between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, bringing the subcontinent to the brink of war.
De-escalation has been underway since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire that was announced on Saturday.
