Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma started well but Sharma could not stay for long and lost his wicket in the fourth over. Ishan Kishan came to bat at number three. He added 85 runs for the second wicket with Head.
Head made quick 67 off just 31 balls which included nine fours and three sixes. Kishan scored his maiden IPL ton and remained unbeaten on 106. He played 47 balls and hit 11 fours and six sixes in his unbeaten knock.
Nitish Kumar Reddy (30) and Heinrich Klaasen (34) also played crucial cameos to take the team's total to 286 runs, which is the second-highest total in IPL history. They missed their own record of the highest total by just one run.
In response, Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal came to open the batting for RR. Samson started well and collected 16 runs from the first over of Mohammed Shami. Seamer Simarjeet Singh came to bowl the next over and he dismissed Jaiswal and captain Riyan Parag in his first over.
Samson added 111 runs for the fourth wicket with Dhruv Jurel, who made his highest score in the IPL - 70 runs. Jurel targeted Pat Cummins and other seamers to hit six sixes and five fours in his inning.
After their dismissals, Shubham Dubey and Shimron Hetmyer added 80 runs for the sixth wicket but that was not enough to reach the target as the lost the match by 44 runs.
Harshal Patel and Simarjeet Singh took a couple of wickets each whereas Shami and Adam Zampa picked one wicket each. Ishan Kishan was named Player of the Match for his performance.
Now, Sunrisers Hyderabad will host Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on Thursday whereas Rajasthan Royals will face Kolkata Knight Riders in Guwahati on Wednesday.
