The University of Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday issued a stern advisory against a fake notice circulating in its name claiming for all exams to be canceled due to a ‘war like situation’ in the country. The notice has been widely shared on social media and has advised students to return home.
The advisory was released shortly after India conducted Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The UGC posted on X issuing clarification stating, "A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name of UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation and advising students to return home. UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC."
The post further stated that, "All official updates are available only on the UGC website and its official social media channels. Spreading such misinformation is a punishable offence. Don't fall for fake information. Stay alert. Follow only official UGC sources."
India carried out the operation following the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22 claiming the lives of 26 individuals. India struck nine terrorist camps that were asserted to be the hideouts of key Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leaders who were involved in conducting attacks on Indian soil.
The attack has led to Pakistan violating the ceasefire agreement by opening artillery fire in Bhimber Gali sector in the Pooch-Rajouri region. The Pakistan army has also retorted to heavy shelling in the Uri region leading to the destruction of several homes in the area.
