Amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions, Pakistan once again targeted India and launched a missile attack on Jammu on Thursday evening. It has been reported most of the missiles have been intercepted. Several high end Surface-to-Air-Missile (SAM) units were engaged as well near multiple locations including Jammu airport, Pathankot, Akhnoor and Samba.
Officials told PTI that Pakistani troops have resorted to shelling along LoC in Kupwara, Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
A complete blackout has been enforced Jammu and sirens are being heard across the entire area, as per news agency ANI. Several rounds of heavy firing have also been reported in the border regions.
“Complete blackout in Jammu. Loud explosions — bombing, shelling, or missile strikes suspected. Fret not — Mata Vishnu Devi is with us, and so are valiant Indian Armed Forces”, The Indian Express reported quoting former Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir Shesh Paul Vaid.
Earlier today, the Indian Air Force (IAF) foiled an aerial attack by Pakistan which came in retaliation to India's terror-base specific response 'Operation Sindoor'. According to the defence ministry, the attempts were neutralised by deploying the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.
As per the official statement, Pakistan attempted to strike multiple military targets across northern and western India including bases in Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Bhuj.
Following the fresh strikes exchanged between India and Pakistan on May 7-8, the Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed the strikes carried out by Pakistan across northern and western states of India.
The debriefing was led by MEA Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and IAF Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
The Foreign Secretary also addressed the rise in disinformation following the Pahalgam Attack on April 22.
"The attack on Pahalgam on April 22 was the first escalation by Pakistan, in response to which the Indian Armed Forces has retaliated accordingly," said Misri.
