On Thursday night, Indian Army air defence units shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir, according to defence sources cited by PTI.
This occurred amid ongoing cross-border shelling along the Line of Control, with both sides engaged in heavy artillery fire. The incidents are part of broader military operations following the launch of Operation Sindoor by India.
According to the Ministry of Defence, Pakistani forces targeted military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using drones and missiles. The Indian armed forces responded by deploying kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures, neutralising the threats.
A Defence Ministry spokesperson confirmed to PTI "The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). No casualties or material losses were reported. India remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people."
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, from its official handle, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said, "India has negated Pakistan's escalation bid with focused, measured and non-escalatory response. Indian armed forces reiterate their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military".
Around 9 pm, a series of loud explosions were reported in Jammu, immediately followed by sirens and a complete power outage in the area. Eyewitness footage shared by local residents showed illuminated streaks in the night sky, indicating the interception of aerial threats by Indian defence systems.
